PELLING NEARBY TOURIST PLACES

01. Pemayangtse Monastery
The Monastery located on a hill top at an altitude of 6840 ft. commands a magnificent panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges and the surrounding hills and countryside. This is one of the oldest monastery of the Nyngmapa sect of Mahanaya Buddhism, and was but by Lhatsun Chenpo during the reign of the 3rd Chogyal, Chagdor Namgyal in the 17th century.

02. Rabdentse Palace Ruins and Bird Sanctuary
About 3kms from Pelling and few minutes’ walk further down to Rabdentse Ruins, founded by the 2nd Chogyal of Sikkim Tensung Namgyal in the year 1670. This was the second capital of the erstwhile Kingdom of Sikkim after Yuksom and till the year 1814 AD. The site has been recently very fully excavated and restored by the Archeological survey of India. After the restoration one can now visit the king’s bed room, assembly hall and kitchen, Public courtyard and other palace guards’ room etc. Now the Rabdentse area is coming up as Bird Sanctuary with other tourist amenities.

03. Sangacholing Monastery
This monastery is situated on a ridge above Pelling and the famous Pemayangtse Monastery. Built in 1697 AD, it is considered to be one of the oldest monasteries in the State. In order to reach this Monastery one has to be prepared to spend at least 40 minutes walking up the steep hilly slope which leads through rich forest covers.

04. Sangay Falls
About 10kms from Pelling on the way of Dentam Valley is the famous Sangay Water Falls, which is most attractive in all seasons. The water falls from the high cliff in different runs that makes visitors watch unmoved for hours. Interested visitors may climb up through gentle footpath and sit closer to the falls in a beautiful viewpoint shade.

05. Singshore Bridge
This suspension bridge is the highest in the state. This engineering marvel lies at a height of 100 meters and the length is around 198 meters. It connects two hills over the support of the gorge. The view from the bridge is absolutely mesmerizing; you can see waterfalls, the valley and the slopes of mountains all around in a panoramic view.

06. Rimbi River, Waterfalls, Village, Old Power Station, Rock Garden
About 12km. away from Pelling, the main attractions are the River Rimbi & Water Falls, Karchen Power House, Rock garden & Orange Garden. Rimbi Waterfalls is spectacular view that attract tourist. Rock Garden and Orange Garden richly maintained with rocks, gardens, pools, zigzag foot paths and interesting recreation amenities like viewpoints and cafeteria.

07. Khecheopalri Lake
Nature does not deny the people's faith. Khecheoplari Lake is only 28 Km. from Pelling, which appears in the Shape Of Foot Print when it is seen from a hill top at a distance. The leaves when fall on the surface of the lake, the birds fly in and pick them away is not just the folk tales but a true happenings that people with good faith often witness it. One of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Sikkim. Visited with faith and devotion, the pilgrims truly believe it to be the Wish Fulfilling Lake.

08. Kanchenjunga Falls
About 28kms from Pelling, Kanchenjunga Falls, situated at a sharp curve on the road side. The falls being very big in size and equally attractive throughout the year, it has become one of the leading tourist spots in west Sikkim. Mr. Topjor Bhutia discovered it in the mid 90s the falls was not well known to tourists and even the locals who passed by it, as this is not easily seen from the road because it is hidden. Today this spot is being developed with needed infrastructure for the comfort of the tourists.

09. Phamrong Falls
Located about 33 km. from Pelling towards Gerethang, Phamrong Waterfall is one of the highest waterfall of Sikkim. Set in the midst of lush greenery, this Waterfall cascading down the magnificent Kanchenjunga Range presents a transcendental spectacle especially during the rainy season. A gentle gradient footpath takes one to a viewpoint for a closer view of this mighty discharge of water. The water gushing down the rocky plateau creates an amazing vista of a play between water and rocks. Tourists capture very beautiful views both from the top and the bottom of the Waterfall.

10. Yuksom
33 kms from Pelling, Yuksom, literally meaning the ‘meeting place of three lamas’ is of great historical importance to the Sikkim’s. It was here that the first Chogyal was crowned in 1642. The Coronation Throne Of Norbugang made of stones is even today considered sacred as is the footprint of Lhatsun Chenpo, which can be seen close to the throne. 2 km uphill from Yuksom is Dubdi Monastery, the oldest in Sikkim. The monastery has now been declared a National Monument and is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India. The other worth visiting spots is Kathoke Lake and Helipad where the views are superb.

11. Tashiding Monastery
Tashiding is a small village on a hilltop near Pelling. The Tashiding monastery belongs to the Nyingmapa order and is highly revered among the people of Sikkim. Build on the top of the hill and looming over the Rathong and Rangit River, the monastery can be seen from far and wide. It is believed that even a slight glimpse of the monastery can cleanse mortals of all sins. The monastery was built during the 17th Century. There are a large number of oranges orchards and cardamoms plantations around Tashiding which can be visited from here.

12. Legship: Kirateshwar Mahadev Mandir
22 kms from Pelling. On the left banks of the river Rangit is a Shiva temple known as the Kirateshwar Mahadev Mandir, which has many mythological episodes of the Mahabharata attached to it. The main festival of the temple, Bala Chaturdesi is observed in December each year. Other temples dedicated to Lord Rama and Durga are also found here making it an important pilgrimage destination for Hindus.

13. Sirijunga Teyongsi Chayatal
32 kms from Pelling. Chayatal is basically a hidden gem in west Sikkim. You can get 180 degree of Kanchenjunga view from Chayatal. Sightseeing- Srijunga Park & Chayatal Lake.

Sirijunga Teyongsi complex: The 36 ft tall statue of Mahatma Sirijunga Teyongsi on his 313th Birth Anniversary on last year. The Complex also houses a Study Centre and will now be used for preservation and promotion of Limboo language, tradition, culture and heritage.

14. Rincenpong
At an altitude of about 5576ft, Rinchenpong is the latest addition to the tourist map of West Sikkim, has a magnificent command over the mountain views, sunrise and sunset, flora and fauna, village tourism, historical sites and heritage of Resum Monastery, rich forests and ample area for short treks.
The place is famous for the beautiful view of the Kanchenjunga range of mountains. Apart from the natural beauty of the surroundings, the place is also quite significant from historical point of view.
